diaphon
Alexander Rex, a trained organ builder and Jakob Klug, a qualified goldsmith, designed and produced an object for the exhibition „vnd last euch nicht abwenden von dem rechten Wege des Euangelions“. The theme of the exhibition is the Reformation in Lower Lusatia.
Vernissage: 10.11.2017, Stadtmuseum Cottbus
„The book first appears as a simple Bible. After the opening, however, bellows and organ pipes made of paper become visible – a small paper organ. The wind is directed through the luther rose of the envelope into the bellows and from there into the pipes.
By pressing the bellows a harmonic or disharmonious sound can be produced. Switching between harmony and disharmony can be understood as an analogy to the changes and conflicts within the Christian world that Luther set in motion with the Reformation. The object gives the Reformation a sound symbolism.
The term“ diaphone„refers to the discordant intervals in music.“
